Statement

I’m running for Congress because Washington families deserve more than another political revolution. We need an opportunity revolution.

The Seattle area helped build some of the greatest companies in the world — Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon, Costco, and many more. We became known as a place where ideas could grow, workers could prosper, and families could build a better future. But today, big government policies are making it harder to build, hire, afford, and stay. When we become hostile to the very employers and innovators that created opportunity here, we lose jobs, weaken our economy, and make life harder for working families.

Affordability is now a crisis. Families are being squeezed by higher gas prices, energy costs, groceries, housing, insurance, and taxes. The Climate Commitment Act may sound good, but in practice it is driving up the cost of energy while doing little to directly improve the environment. Combined with one of the highest gas taxes in the country, these policies raise transportation, food, and energy costs — and those costs get passed on to families through nearly everything they buy. I believe in family, public safety, faith in God, and faith in each other. We need to love our neighbors again. We have had enough division, anger, and blame. Our problems are real, but we will not solve them by tearing each other apart.

I will be a voice of common sense, moderation, and practical solutions in a highly charged political environment. I believe in safer communities, stronger families, lower costs, responsible government, and an economy where everyone has the opportunity to work, build, serve, and thrive.

I’m Doug Basler, and I would be honored to earn your vote.
